I am making some changes to the video sizes and formats available in the members area. The first change has started today. But there are many more to come. The downloadable MP4 version of Max Gatling’s video (posted today) has gone from 720×404 size to 960×540. So the download version of the video is larger. I haven’t settled at 960×540 yet. We might go larger. But firstly I want to sort out a better format of video for streaming on home computers and on mobile devices. I don’t think the streaming works very well on mobile devices (in particular). So before I go making the videos too large (currently it is the same large MP4 video that downloads AND streams), I need to make more versions of the video to suit everyone. So my plan is to offer the following:
1. A lower bit rate video for streaming and mobile devices (at a size that best fits mobile devices). This will allow faster buffering and no interruptions.
2. Medium sized video for download
3. Large size video for download (either 960×540 or 1280×720)
And I am thinking of offering MP4 only as it seems to work best. Many other sites seem to be moving to MP4 only. So that’s the techie news for today. On the lighter side… what do you think about our new mate Max? Isn’t he gorgeous?
